Wings of Stone: MoRoc & Annastara

Baseline MoRoc wings — heavy, stony, and largely ornamental — contrasted with Annastara’s living-stone wings veined with light and true flight potential.

MoRoc Wings (Baseline)

Heavy, stony, jagged — remnants of an older design.

Status Ornamental / Gliding
Structure
Heavy, stony, jagged.
Function
Mostly ornamental or limited gliding; vestiges of an earlier form.
Limitation
At dawn, when MoRoc harden into statues, the wings become immobile stone extensions.

Annastara’s Wings (Unique)

Living stone veined with light — capable of bursts of true flight.

Status Living‑Stone / Flight‑Capable
Living Stone
Not dead weight — they ripple subtly, like molten rock cooling and shifting.
Flight Potential
May enable true powered flight: short lifts expanded into sustained glides.
Veined with Light
Faint luminous veins pulse during transformation, as if animated by inner fire.

Symbolism

  • Marks Annastara as beyond the MoRoc — not bound by the Edict of Balance, not frozen by day.
  • A visual echo of Vear’s Skyborn title, tying her destiny to his in mythic symmetry.

Humans’ Perception

  • Humans call the MoRoc “gargoyles,” seeing them frozen by daylight.
  • When Annastara transforms — stone body, glowing eyes, and wings that move — they see a “living gargoyle.”
  • That distinction terrifies them, breaking their understanding of the MoRoc entirely.
